Before & Aftercare
A little prep goes a long way! ✦
We’ve put together some tips to help you get ready for your appointment and give your skin the care it needs afterward.
BEFORE Electrolysis
STOP WAXING & TWEEZING during treatments
Waxing and tweezing remove the hair from the root, which means there may be no hair available for your electrologist to treat. Stick to shaving or trimming between appointments instead!
NO RETINOIDS OR EXFOLIANTS for 7 days
Retinoids and exfoliating products can make your skin more sensitive and increase irritation during treatment. Give the skin a break (in the treatment area) for 7 days before your appointment.
GROW HAIR FOR 2-4 DAYS approx. ¼ inch long
We need about ¼ inch of length on the hairs so we can see and properly treat them. Avoid shaving or trimming the treatment area for a few days before your appointment so the hair is long enough to work with
INCREASE HYDRATION 2 days prior
Well-hydrated skin helps with pain management, electrolysis effectiveness, and healing. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment.
ARRIVE WITH CLEAN SKIN no makeup or lotions
Clean skin free of makeup, lotions, oils, or other skincare products helps avoid breakouts and aids in healing.
AFTER Electrolysis
KEEP IT CLEAN avoid picking, or scratching
Your skin may be red or sensitive after electrolysis, so keep the area clean and let it heal. Avoid touching, picking, or scratching the treated area to reduce irritation and the risk of infection or scarring.
APPLY SOOTHING PRODUCTS as needed
Aloe, witch hazel or a cold compress can help calm irritated skin after treatment. Avoid anything that stings or causes additional irritation.
AVOID SUN EXPOSIRE and use 45 SPF
Freshly treated skin can be more prone to irritation and discoloration from sun exposure. Protect the area from direct sunlight, and once your skin can tolerate it, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 45 or higher.
NO MAKEUP OR LOTIONS for 24 hours
Makeup, heavy lotions, oils, and other products may irritate freshly treated skin or contribute to clogged pores and breakouts. Give your skin a break for at least 24 hours after treatment.
CONTINUE HYDRATING for 2 days
Keep drinking plenty of water after your appointment to support overall skin health. Staying hydrated is a simple way to help your skin feel its best!
NO RETINOIDS OR EXFOLIANTS for 5-7 days
Give your skin time to recover before reintroducing retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, or other potentially irritating products. If your skin is still red, tender, or irritated, wait until it has healed before using them again.
